I’ve been hearing a lot about a movie called, “Fat, Sick, and Nearly Dead”. It is not easy to get in Canada for some reason, but I managed to reserve a copy at the library…I’m twelfth in line. I’m looking forward to seeing it some time next year! From what I can gather from snip its on YouTube, the movie is about a guy who goes on a juicing diet for his health, and loses an enormous amount of weight.

In my pursuit of trying to improve my health, I looked into it. Bernice, my wife, has tried juicing before for her Crohns and it has helped to relieve symptoms, so I figured it was worth a try. I found a secondhand juicer online, and I was ready to go. Carrot and apple?…not bad, fruit smoothie?…yummy, Green sludge?…yuck! I tried the green juice that the guy from the movie drank. Yeah, well…it sort of tasted like what I imagine licking a lawn mower would taste like. So I tweaked the recipe until I found something that did not make we shutter after each sip. Claire announced that there is no way she is going anywhere near the green muck. I’ll let you know if I find a green juice recipe that actually tastes good.

God Bless, Julia

  1. I am anti-lawn flavor as well. Try pineapples, strawberries, a whole banana plus a boatload of fresh spinach. I sometimes add plain Greek yogurt and it gives a nicer texture and smoother taste. Try it and let me know what you think! I want to be a veggie eater but honestly prefer mac n’ cheese. Needless to say I struggle with getting adequate veggies. This recipe totally works though so I too am a juicing advocate! :). Can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

    • Well I’m off to the grocery store later, so I’ll make sure to try your suggestions, thanks. 🙂

  2. My husband and I make smoothies alot in the summer and sometimes add something special lol. We like strawberries, blueberries and mixed fruit. Never done the juicing thing.

  3. I hope you find a green one that isn’t yucky! I might try searching for a few good ones. Keep us posted and good luck!
