Mama Bear Here

i-saw-that-godFollowing along the destiny road a little further….I think there are people in our lives that are destined to be there. this may seem weird but I know that when I meet someone new, that ends up being important to me, I can remember that moment me met vividly even years later. Why is it that even though I meet and talk to dozens of people each day, that when I meet my, life changers, that they almost seem to have an aura about them…a cosmic neon sign that says, “This One!!!”. Does anyone else get this feeling?…Maybe I am weird. ;>.

I’ve always been the kind of person that had a few very close relationships instead of a bunch of more superficial ones.  It use to drive my childhood best friend crazy….she had literally hundreds of friends, I had about eight. She would say,” you’re my best friend, but I just like to keep my options open.” She never felt loved enough because of her physical disabilities, (Hence why I gravitated towards being a special needs teacher for severely disabled children…destiny?…who knows). I don’t do the superficial relationship very well, I am not a social butterfly by any means.

I know that I love my family and friends ferociously…I’ve been called a mama bear in reference to my children. I can’t imagine my life without them.

Destiny

DSCF2102Destiny…loaded word isn’t it? Most of the time I believe in one form of it or another…then there are the times when the whole destiny thing is too hard, and I want to believe in the randomness of the world. However, I do believe that the universe conspires us to go in a certain direction…it has happened too many times for me not to believe it. unfortunately, just because that particular road I am on is the one chosen for me, it does not mean that there are not huge boulders right smack dab in the middle of my way. I think we are given small successes to keep us on the road, and going in the right direction…the pebbles, rocks, and boulders we come across help us to learn and become stronger so we can travel further down the road to our destiny.

I’ve read that one’s destiny is the dream you once had for yourself as a child….before the world cruelly took it from you. I’m not sure that it is true for everyone…maybe you are  lucky if you can remember your childhood destiny. I know that it is true for me…the most powerful positive childhood memories for me, all had to do with church, and art…it has taken forty years to get back on that road. Or maybe, I have always been on that road, but the boulders blocked my view. All I can do now is keep travelling…at least now I can see to the horizon.

New Year, New Me…Yeah Right!

971I do love to make changes at the beginning of the year…its like there is a blank slate that you can imagine all kinds of possibilities for your life on. I do not make resolutions.  I do make a list of changes that I would like to make…not horribly hard ones, more like nudges in the right direction. They are things that I have been thinking about over the last year that I believe might make my everyday life easier. They are not resolutions, because it is not an all or nothing, win or lose, sort of thing. I see January first as a day off to get your sh** together…a global reorganization day.

I write my resolutions, changes, down in a journal…a nice new one…because writing things down seems to make them more concrete. Then I think about how I can make the change into smaller, more manageable tasks…you eat an elephant one bite at a time. If I’m feeling really ambitious I might even add a time line for myself. One year I was so determined, I typed them out on cue cards, laminated them, and kept them together with a ring closure so I could carry them around…ok, that’s too much.

I do this reorganization thing at another time of year as well…back to school time.  It is likely that I feel this ways then as well, because so much of my life has been spent in a classroom…whether as a student, or a teacher. I believe that everyone can learn and grow and change. Everyone can learn to love and be loved, to be kind, and respectful to themselves and others. The problem being, some people have more growing to do than others :>.

Inspirational Video 8

I am so sorry that I have not been able to post every day…I miss it. I have very little time for anything other than working this week, but I hope next week will be easier. I did get taken away with this video, and the other two that preceeded…I just had to see this beautiful girl’s journey.  Be warned that some of the video showing the actual operation are a little graphic, so if you have a sensitive stomach you might want to look away for those parts. However this child is a testament to the human spirit, the will to survive, and how to make the most of the life that God gave us.

Inspirational Video 7

I can’t help it, I love funny cat videos.  I’m not sure why, probably because our cat is, EVIL. He likes to go into the bathtub after someone has showered and drink the drops of water from the tap. I know if we turned the water on he would run for the hills…that’s why this video makes me laugh.

Inspirations 7

Another long week is over but next week looks like it holds some promise…keeping my fingers and toes crossed…I have freakishly long toes, lol. I have inspirations this week that were less than pleasant but as the saying goes, it’s all in how you look at it.

1. So the heart tests show no damage to my heart by the sarcoidosis, yeah! However, the drug they gave me meant seven hours in the ER,  O2 sats below 80%, and many days feeling like I had an elephant sitting on my chest.  Conclusion…heart?, good…lungs?, not so good, major motivation to change my lifestyle.

2. At last at the final draft for the church windows, and I might be able to start working on production this week.  Very excited about combining fused glass and stained glass in this project.

3. Bernice, my wife, has to make a choice about whether or not to go take a  powerful drug treatment to try to control her crohns. Although it could have powerful side effects, the Dr. told this was her only option to try to improve her condition. I was there when the Dr. told her this, and I could not help wondering if maybe some alternative health practices, and a healthier lifestyle, could not also help to improve her overall health. More motivation to improve our health and lifestyle.

I wish you all good health and a happy upcoming week…
